We visited Cardenas City during an excursion to see the sugarcane fields, we took an old steam train from the sugarcane factory through the countryside to Cardenas city at the station we got off and looked around before being driven to a restaurant for lunch.

As a child I visited this museum which was located in a different building. I came back last month after 56 years with my family, cause I wanted them to know the history of Cardenas and Cuba. The guide made it interesting for all and I recommend it.

Located on the road to Cardenas, almost at the entrance, at a Y intersection. You see it from the road. I guess you could stop to take photos. I never did. Besides... nothing to see. It's a road side decoration. But it's kinda nice.

Cardenas is a rather run-down Port town that offers a fistful of interesting attractions. One of these is the 'Catedral de la Concepcion Inmaculada' which was built in 1826 on Parque Colon where you will also find a statue of Christopher Columbus which is said to be the first erected in Latin America in 1858.
The Cathedral is often closed, except for Sunday Mass, but it is still a historic building worth making a point to visit. Horse drawn carriage rides are common in Cardenas and cheap at circa CUC5 for about 1/2 hour tour of the city.

This regional museum in Cardenas has a varied collection of natural history objects. Gathered into several rooms, I found the coin collection to be amazing with coins dating back to Roman days as well as many good examples from the Middle Ages. There was also excellent exhibits on the mineral and gems, armour and native people artificats.

This museum contains some local art, but is primarily a historical perspective of the Elian Gonzales story regarding the his arrival in the USA, the court battles and eventual return to hist father's custody in Cárdenas, Cuba. As of December 2017 the exhibits are Spanish only and the tour guides spoke Spanish only.
In addition to the exhibits, the building architecture was very interesting and there are fantastic views of Cárdenas from the roof top Terrace.
The building also hosts a library and the local radio station broadcasts from the second floor.
